Ty Fernholz transitioned from a Stoughton legend to a collegiate standout without missing a beat. After finishing his high school career as the all-time leader in points, assists, and steals, Ty took his talents to Michigan Tech, where he has become a cornerstone of the Huskies' recent historic success. He played a pivotal role in securing back-to-back GLIAC championships—the program’s first repeat titles in over two decades—and helped lead the team to a historic NCAA DII Elite 8 appearance in Pittsburgh this past March.

On the court, Ty continues to rewrite the record books. He was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the week his Freshman year and recently set a Michigan Tech school record by sinking an incredible 12 three-pointers in a single game. Off the court, his impact is just as significant. As a Business major and Dean’s List student, Ty is recognized by his coaches for his consistent leadership and the resilience required to thrive in the demanding environment of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Despite his success on the national stage, Ty remains deeply connected to his Stoughton roots. He stays in close contact with his former coaches and teammates, and he is committed to investing in the next generation of local athletes. This summer, he will return home to host the second annual Ty Fernholz Basketball Camp on June 27, 2026. We are proud to celebrate Ty’s achievements and his continued commitment to the Stoughton community.
